An Exploration of Ma Zhu's Elucidation of Confucian Thoughtthrough The Guide to Islam (Qing Zhen Zhi Nan)

Abstract

Based on the text of The Guide to Islam (Qing Zhen Zhi Nan) and incorporating previous relevant research, this paper examines the intellectual background shaping Ma Zhu's thought prior to his authorship of The Guide and investigates the specific elucidations of Confucian ideas within the text. The study argues that Ma Zhu innovatively reinterpreted the Confucian description of ontological origins, expounding upon the concepts of "Heaven" (Tian) and the "Sage" (Shengren) and their interrelationship. This reflects the idea of "complementarity and mutual intelligibility between Islamic and Confucian thought" , which still holds inspiration and referential significance for civilizational exchange and mutual learning today.
