A Textual Correction in the Revised Edition of the "Cefu Yuangui: Section on Military Commanders"

Abstract

According to the Ming Dynasty block-printed edition of Cefu Yuangui, section “Generals and Commanders: Presenting Victory (Part 2)”:  “In the second year, second month, Fuzhou Defense Commissioner Zhe Congruan memorialized: ‘Having led troops to besiege and attack the Khitan’s Shengzhou, the city surrendered. Forces are now advancing toward Shuozhou.’” This entry is placed after the item for the eighth month of the first year of the Later Tang Changxing era (930), yet no specific year is clearly indicated. The 2006 revised edition of Cefu Yuangui published by Phoenix Press also does not provide a textual note to clarify this point.

明刻本《册府元龟•将帅部》“献捷二”条载：“二年二月，符州防御使折从阮奏：“部领兵士攻围契丹胜州，降之。见进兵趋朔州。”此事系于后唐长兴元年（930）八月条后，但未明确注明具体年份，凤凰出版社2006年版《册府元龟》校订本亦未出校勘记予以说明。
